Privacy

Reading this songbook requires no account, and we would rather not know who you are.

If you never sign in

Nothing about you is stored on our servers. Your favourites, programs, keys, marks and your own edits live in your browser’s storage on your device and never leave it. There is no analytics script, no advertising pixel and no third-party tracker anywhere in this app.

If you do sign in

An account exists for one reason: carrying your own things between your own devices. We store the identifier you signed up with (an email address or a username), a hashed password, an optional display name, and the personal data above so it can be synced. Passwords are hashed with scrypt and are not recoverable by anyone, including us.

What we never collect

  • Your address, date of birth, gender or any demographic data
  • Your contacts, photos, or anything else on your device
  • Your location
  • Card or UPI details — payments go through Razorpay’s own checkout and never touch this app. We keep what was bought, when, and the payment reference, which is what a receipt is made of.
  • Any behavioural profile, for us or for anyone else

The faint mark across a song

Song pages carry a faint diagonal mark over the text. If you are signed in it shows your username and the date; if you are not, it shows a six-character code and the date. It is there so that a screenshot of a lyric can be traced back to where it came from.

That code is worked out from your network address, your browser’s own description of itself and today’s date, run through a one-way function with our key. It is not stored anywhere and no cookie is set for it. It changes every day, so it cannot be used to follow you from one day to the next, and we could not turn one back into an address if we wanted to — we can only recompute it from a server log for the same day.

Voice search

Voice search uses the speech recognition built into your browser. On most platforms that runs on your device; on some it is sent to your browser vendor. Either way it does not pass through us, we never receive the audio, and the microphone is only open while you are holding the button.

Deleting everything

Clearing this site’s data in your browser removes everything held on your device. If you have an account, write to addvertizin@gmail.com and it will be deleted, along with everything synced to it.
